Aerodynamic interference between two boxes in parallel arrangement and flow field characteristics around the girder

Abstract Aerodynamic characteristics of long-span bridges with box girders have been investigated widely, and this paper presents a study on cable-stayed bridge two in parallel arrangement. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulations were adopted to analyze the aerodynamic interference between upper lower girders. After checking reliability model, different angles attack distances considered, variations discussed, including coefficients static pressure distributions. Then, wind environment around was focused, effect vehicle also studied. The results show that is strong, so boxes are from those single box. flow field higher velocities, which makes force become upward downward, respectively. Meanwhile, forces vehicles above deck surface larger due accelerated boxes.
